Fish that have access to surface air may not show these signs because they can simply come up for a breath and get enough oxygen. As bottom feeders, corys are a really good way to spot an issue before it becomes a bigger problem. The simple fix is to add an airstone or 2. Depending on the size of your tank, you may need more than one for adequate oxygenation. If you rely on a filter to keep the water clean and oxygenated, then they are simply not enough.
You also need something that is going to allow dissolved oxygen in the water to replenish itself quickly, and this can only be achieved by physically agitating the water and injecting air into it. Whats the best thing I can do now? Change more water and if so how much? What is the tank size? I'm afraid to have dead fish tomorrow. The reason they do that is because there scavenging the waters surface for food.
There just hungry I think. Let me call in the pro. DoubleDutch your thoughts please? I hope u are right but why does my siamese that started this do that and not the other one and for non stop 2 days, I read something about it wants more oxygen to the gills if doing so that something is wrong.
It could be lack of oxygenation. Do you have enough surface agitation, live plants ,or an air stone?
Any of those will solve the problem for ya. If they were only introduced to the tank on Sunday then it's quite common for corys to 'glass surf' for a while until they settle in. Click to expand I agree with Coradee. I missed the part where they were only introduced Sunday. My new corys all did that for the first week or 2. Now they only do that at first light when they know the shrimp pellets are about to drop. Thanks guys for your replys! Also I got like 7 plants and 3 caves.
Hm ye my old corys did that in group up and down on the side glass these guys moves back and forward spread out like panic mode at the top,but hopefully it will be ok.
I wouldnt be worry if it wasn't for my siamese that never done that before, same pattern for 2 days exept when I give them food sry for my english its not my native languege.
Mine do it after a water change. I think it makes them frisky, esp if the water is noticeably colder. What's your tank temp , and when you did a water change did you use Prime or another water conditioner?
Atm its 26 celcius, it was 24 on sunday I had to change the heater abit tried to get to 25, I think its like u guys says they just trying to settled and are not used to pellets yet and trying to get food higher up, my sterbaI corys are chilling inside the cave all day and the surface are moving.
