Thanks to Eric Bischoff and his breaking of the fourth wall between the business and the fans, now it was no holds barred.
While Bischoff and WCW broke new ground and shattered old traditions, WWE was taking the bull by the horns, and taking the fight straight to them. The Attitude Era was all about swagger, style and reckless abandon. WWE pursued every angle, every spot, every match, with all the subtlety of a bloodthirsty predator tearing into its prey.
They may have been on the ropes, but they were ready for round two, and they were itching to prove that they were the best in the world. WCW was not only unprepared for what WWE were doing in this new era, they had no idea how far that company would go to get back on top. Of course, WCW security closed the door. It would not have been good for them. Doing that would be admitting that Vince McMahon had gotten the best of them, had manipulated them into a game of chicken that they were not prepared for.
After spending so much time on television, trying to convince fans all over the world that they wanted this fight, that they were in it to win, when the opportunity finally came to have an epic showdown, they said no thank you. Did it make a difference that logistically speaking they could not have allowed D-X to just walk into their territory?
Eventually, Triple H would begin to target The Legacy because they were responsible for his losses against Orton during matches. On the August 10, episode of Raw , video segments aired in which Triple H met with Michaels at an office cafeteria in Texas where he was working as a chef; throughout the segments, Triple H would try to convince Michaels to return to WWE. After several incidents during the segments including a grease fire and Shawn shouting at a little girl , Michaels agreed to team with Triple H to face The Legacy at SummerSlam , quitting from his chef job in the process.
On the August 17 episode of Raw , Michaels and Triple H officially reunited as DX, but as they were in the process of their in-ring promo, Legacy surprise attacked them both.
Their first match after reuniting was against Legacy at SummerSlam , which they won. They began a feud with Chris Jericho and Big Show. When DX formed they began doing a gesture where they would put one arm on each side of their crotch and point down. This was known as the "crotch chop".
However, when DX reformed in , Michaels said he felt uncomfortable doing the real "crotch chop" so he would do the alternate version, as he had become a born again Christian since the last D-Generation X incarnation.
When DX enters the ring they do a pyro routine. Green X pyrotechnics go off three times, with DX crotch-chopping at each firing. They then pause for a second, then chop once more as the pyrotechnics fire again. This is also used in their popular "Let's get ready to suck it!
The routine starts when Triple H asks the audience " Are you ready? He continues and says " Then, for the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching at home.
Let's get ready to suck it! Another taunt DX performs, is crossing their forearms above their head, making an "X" formation, which looks identical to the referee 's X symbol that means "This wrestler is legitimately injured! Ron Killings also took some mahi-mahi off the catering table. Interesting bits include Tracy bringing milk and cookies into the room and a midget kicking "McMahon" in the groin.
Before showing the real footage, Mike Tenay remarked along the lines of "Here's the footage that WWE doesn't want you to see It's not like we drove a tank up to their headquarters in Stamford.
The actual footage blurred out all the WWE wrestlers, but Rey Mysterio , who is good friends with Konnan of 3Live Kru, was easy to identify despite being blurred. No suit was filed by WWE.
