In the 17 th and 18 th centuries, English Catholic women especially nuns were considered virtuous, obedient, and very religious. Nuns were not meant to be selfish because instead of caring about their own wants and needs they were supposed to serve God and do good things for others instead. According to some Anti-Catholic texts, Nuns were supposed to obey the orders given to them by their priests without asking questions because that is what they signed up for when they took their vows to become nuns.
As it is shown in these Anti-Catholic stories, strict parents and strict religious leaders also felt that once a girl decided to be a nun she was stuck there for the rest of her life. These texts explain that the fact that most girls who were becoming nuns did not choose to be nuns but were forced to be nuns by their parents explains why most of these girls ended up becoming criminals. Some nuns fell in love and broke their vows by being with men and eventually secretly marrying them. Nuns also struggled with doing the right thing yet representing what a woman should be like.

In order for them to get out they had to trick the nun who locks their doors before they went to bed and to do that they made a fake key and gave it to her. Not only did these nuns already commit a crime by falling in love and breaking a vow but they also committed a crime by making a false key to the garden door and stealing the real one. Another problem that happened in this story is that they recruited a new nun who wanted to get out of the convent.
This caused another problem because they caused for more nuns to break the rules. In the end the nuns end up getting married but no priest under the Catholic religion wants to do it for them, therefore they decide to be married under the Protestant religion.
Nobody but the protestant priest condones this and it only leaves the nuns back at the convent angry and the nuns that escaped wanted criminals. She needs to know in her mind and in her heart what choice she is making. When a nun dedicates herself to God it is like she is marrying him. She remains loyal and faithful to God, her vows, and her work.
She is obedient. If a nun does fall in love with someone else then she will have to leave her religious duties, her community, and give up her right to be a nun. Nuns are not allowed to have sexual relations and they are not allowed to have children while being a nun.
A nun can have children but they need to no longer be dependent on her. The work of nuns is known all over the world. Catholicism has its seat in Vatican City, Italy, but its presence is global. Nuns often choose communities in desperate areas that are rife with famine and disease. Sr Teresa chose to go to India to help the poor population. She is amongst a like-minded community where they support each other. When a nun takes her vows she is committed to them and is unlikely to break them. But if she does, then she leaves the order and will find great difficulties in rejoining.

A priest and a minister may be closer, but a sister was never a leader, not in the Catholic Church. It was always men, men, men, never women, and that was one of my bugaboos.
So, I applied, and they selected me. I served as the minister for a couple years. Lazarus : Did you want to stay on, since it had felt like a calling? Bancroft : I could have put my hat in the ring and applied for the position, but they wanted someone for the long run.
Lazarus : Do you miss the structure of a place to go? Bancroft : No. A woman who is retired. I am not saying I am not going to do anything! I have hobbies and grandchildren. Becoming a nun is a difficult process that requires a lot of time and sacrifice. The process itself varies from order to order. Some orders have very strict requirements about who can or cannot become a nun. For example, certain Christian and Buddhist congregations require their nuns to be single, without children, and without debt.
The whole process usually takes years. Their lives are dedicated to prayer and religious study. Sisters, on the other hand, take vows which are much simpler.
