I guess the biggest reason is that Mountain Dew and the rest taste different to me since they switched the natural sugar of major brands of soda to high-fructose corn syrup. Still, I was more than eager to take a sip of Mountain Dew Throwback when my husband popped a can to have with his dinner.
The move to natural sugar is getting easier. The major reason for switching to high-fructose corn syrup HFCS in the eighties was cost. Sugar prices are better than they used to be and the demand for the retro taste is back so we are beginning to see more soda manufacturers offering options.
